Sweet chestnut, hybrid (Castanea crenata x mollissima) - 5 seeds

A rare hybrid of the Japanese chestnut (C. creanata) and the Chinese chestnut (C. mollissima), the two Asian species. The nuts are quite small but very tasty, placed in small medium size covers. Ripes in late September /early October. This small treel bears fruit after several years from sowing. Seeds should be sown immediately upon receipt in a cool basement or outdoors (and the sowing area should be covered), or stratified in slightly moist peat moss over winter and sown in spring. We sell a packet of 5 seeds (viable, not dried). We have a limited supply of these packets, so we encourage you to order while they last.
