The sale includes seeds harvested from an F1 hybrid of two edible fruiting physalis:
- Physalis longifolia - a perennial resistant to severe frosts, wintering well in USDA zones 6/7, which produces small but tasty and sweet fruit
- and the so-called tomatillo, or "leather tomato," which is an annual in our country, with large fruits and is treated as a vegetable (like tomatoes).
The seeds were harvested from our only 1 hybrid plant. They were produced from insect-pollinated flowers. This is likely the result of self-pollination (F2) or a backcross with Physalis longifolia (BC1).
Our F1 hybrid had the following characteristics:
- It was an annual/frost-sensitive (no rhizome)
- The fruit was quite large, with a tomatillo aroma, but sweet (!)
- The seeds are small, similar in size to Physalis longifolia seeds. longifolia (much smaller than the typical Ph. philadelphica).
Package of 12 fresh seeds. Only a few packets are available for sale.
