Subterranean Clover (Trifolium subterraneum) - 15 seeds
This is an interesting species of clover that produces underground pods – similar to the subterranean nut (Arachis hypogaea), also known as the "peanut." However, in this plant, it's not the seeds that are edible, but the leaves, which can be consumed in moderate quantities (raw or cooked). Subterranean clover grows wild in temperate and subtropical regions of Europe, northern Africa, and western Asia. It easily overwinters here near our home (in zones 6/7) in the loose (not dug into the ground) building plastic containers in which we grow it. And frosts can be severe – (-15) or (-20) degrees Celsius – occur almost every winter. It's best to sow the seeds in their permanent location in spring. A rarity in trading. A packet of 15 seeds (not pods) is available for sale.
