A rare hybrid of the European chestnut (C. sativa) and the American chinkapin (C. pumila). The nuts are medium size, tasty, placed in very large shells. Ripes in late September /early October. The tree is not very tall, which bears fruit after only several years from sowing. Seeds should be sown immediately upon receipt in a cool basement or outdoors (and the sowing area should be covered), or stratified in slightly moist peat moss over winter and sown in spring. We sell a packet of 5 seeds (viable, not dried). We have a limited supply of these packets, so we encourage you to order while they last.
