Perennial Borage, Abraham-Isaac-Jacob (Trachystemon orientalis) - 10 seeds
Other name: Borago orientalis
The fully frost-hardy perennial (in zones 6/7) that blooms in early spring, along with the unfolding leaves. Later, until autumn, it displays a beautiful display with dense tufts of large, dark green leaves. The roots and other parts of this plant can be eaten raw or cooked, but we advise against eating them frequently, as we suspect they may contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids (dangerous if consumed regularly). The plant has a flavor similar to annual borage (Borago officinalis) and generally resembles it very much in appearance. The seeds require sowing in the garden in autumn, or cold stratification for 2-3 months, followed by sowing, probably quite deeply (8-10 mm). We're not sure, as information is difficult to find, but they likely require not only a period of cold but also darkness to germinate. They germinate quite slowly. The seeds were harvested from our garden in early summer 2025 and have been stored in hermetic package ever since to maximize their viability.
We selling a package of 10 seeds. We only have a limited supply of these packs, so we encourage you to order while they last.
