The sale includes seeds harvested from an F2 hybrid of two Physalis:
- Physalis philadelphica – known as tomatillo, whose fruit is used as a vegetable (like tomatoes).
- Physalis nicandroides – a huge, annual Physalis from Mexico.
It's an amphidiploid—meaning it's a hybrid whose genome has been duplicated. The fruit of the F1 plant tasted more like a tomatillo, but its appearance was very diverse (even in the F1 generation!) and there was some splitting of traits (some individuals had fruit more similar to Ph. philadelphica, others to Ph. nicandroides). We believe the F2 generation should have revealed even greater splitting of traits.
Package of 12 fresh seeds. Only a few packages are available for sale.
