Wild Ozark Gourd (Cucurbita pepo var. ozarkana) - edible - 10 seeds
A very rare wild pumpkin from the Ozark Plateau (central USA). A wild cousin of squash, zucchini, and pattypan squash, it grows wild in warm temperate climates, far north. This taxon produces small, edible, and tasty fruit (not bitter, like popular ornamental gourds). The skin of ripe fruit is very thick and hard, but brittle—a hammer is required to open the fruit. A rarity in the trade. Seeds come from openly pollinated flowers, but from plants growing in isolation from other varieties. This wild pumpkin variety is exceptionally valuable due to its lack of bitterness. Seeds should be sown outdoors in the first half of May. The package contains 10 fresh seeds.
