Japanese woodland nettle (Laportea macrostachya) - 7 seeds
Other name: Laportea cuspidata
An East Asian, exceptionally beautiful perennial native to regions such as China, Japan and Myanmar. The accession for sale here comes from temperate regions of Japan, making it very frost-resistant. It winters well in zones 7/8, and even 6, if well-covered (it overwinters better than the related Laportea bulbifera). This plant is similar to L. bulbifera and also produces bulbs in the leaf axils in autumn, but fewer in number. It is also more ornamental. The leaves are also edible – spinach made from its leaves is extremely tasty and highly prized. This year, we only sell seeds, not bulbs, of this species. They should be sown in autumn in a cool cellar or stratified in moist sand over winter. We sell a pack of 7 fresh seeds (not bulbs). Only a few packs are available.
