Deodeok, Lance Asiabell - Codonopsis lanceolata - rare root vegetable and ornam. 30 seeds
This is a perennial climber to about 1,5m (=5ft) tall, Frost hardy to at least zones 6/7 (it survives outside without mulching usual winters in zone 6b). It is native to East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, and the Russian Far East). The leaves and roots of this plant are edible raw or cooked (it is used as vegetable in Korea). Also medical herb (used to treat lung abscesses, milk-flow obstruction and inflamed boils etc.). Very ornamental climber due to large, beauty flowers which appear in August. The seeds need GA3 treatment (2000ppm by 24 hours) or probably cold stratification to germinating. They should be sown shallowly or surface. I am growing three accessions (one ex Korea and two unknown origin) which can cross-pollinate freely. In sale package 30 fresh seeds.
