Hybrid of two Tubergourd species (Thladiantha dubia x Thladiantha sp.) BC1 x F1 - 5 seeds

The very vigorous, perennial hybrid climber, frost-resistant to at least zone 6. This hybrid was created by crossing the heart-shaped potato (Thaladiantha dubia) with another potato species (Thaladiantha sp.). It differs from the former, which is quite common in gardens, in its orange (not red) fruit and delicate white spots on the leaves, as well as in several other botanical details. The fruit appears to be edible when fully ripe, and in the BC1 generation, we encountered specimens without the burning taste (which is characteristic of Th. dubia) – they are suitable for raw consumption (and therefore highly valuable). However, not all plants possess this characteristic. Genetic and trait separation is observed in the BC1 generation, but this allows us to select valuable plants and propagate them vegetatively as new varieties, such as fruiting varieties. The fruit of our hybrid is very tasty, aromatic, and very sweet, but some seedlings have a burning taste while others do not. Even the "scorching" fruit is edible – long-cooked pulp loses its irritating properties and is very tasty. A very ornamental vine – numerous yellow flowers and orange fruits with orange or yellow flesh. Fresh seeds – harvested in the fall of 2025. Hand-pollinated seeds from our 'Kristina' BC1 variety (which has almost no spicy flavor even without cooking) are available for sale, pollinated with the male F1 'Wojtek' variety. Seeds are difficult to find commercially. A very rare plant – we are the breeders of this hybrid and the only sellers. Sow the seeds surface-soil. Keep the soil moist, but not too wet. You can coat the seeds with a fungicide. They germinate without pre-sowing treatment. Fruit formation requires male and female plants (seeds should produce both sexes) and hand-pollination (because the flowers produce oil, not nectar, and European and American bees are reluctant to pollinate them). Pack of 5 seeds (harvested fall 2025). Only a few packs available..
