Smooth Groundcherry (Physalis subglabrata) - frost hardy perennial - 20 seeds
Other names: Physalis longifolia var. subglabrata, Perennial Husk-Tomato
It is a frost-hardy perennial (hardy to at least Zone 5) growing up to approximately 100 cm tall, closely related to the long-leaved groundcherry (Ph. longifolia). It produces an abundance of delicious, sweet fruit (the largest yields from these perennial groundcherries are obtained from the second or third year of cultivation). It originates from North America (specifically, this accession is from Michigan). It thrives in partial shade or full sun and requires well-drained soil, preferably loamy. Seeds germinate best after soaking for 12–24 hours in a GA3 hormone solution (2000 ppm) or following cold stratification (or outdoor autumn sowing). Sow on the soil surface. The packet contains 20 fresh seeds.
