Heartnut (Juglans ailanthifolifolia var coriformis) - 7 seeds
This is a variety of the Japanese walnut that produces heart-shaped nuts. They are exceptionally tasty and lack the bitterness characteristic of the English walnut. The nuts grow at the tips of the branches in clusters of a dozen or so. These are seeds from the 'Campbell CW1' cultivar. The botanical variety (var. cordiformis) occurs naturally in Japan and reproduces true to type in about 70% of cases; the remaining 30% will grow into standard Japanese walnuts. The seeds should be sown in the garden or a cool cellar in autumn, or stratified (gently moist and cold) in the fridge over the winter. Offered here is a pack of 7 seeds from the September 2026 harvest (from our own garden).
