Prickly False Groundcherry (Physaliastrum echinatum) - 20 seeds
A perennial native to East Asia (this is an accession from S. Korea, which is slightly less hairy than the other accession we have from Japan). It produces white berries surrounded by a greenish, spiny calyx. They are said to be edible when fully ripe (though we advise caution). They taste delicious—sweet and aromatic. Once ripe, they fall to the ground and need to sit for a few days to become overripe. A rarity, difficult to find in Europe. It need well drained soil and half shade. Seeds should be sown in autumn in a cool cellar or stratified in moist sand in the refrigerator. Alternatively, they can be soaked in a GA3 hormone solution (2000 ppm for 12 hours). Pack of 20 fresh seeds. Only a few packs available.
