Sweet chestnut, hybrid (Castanea pumila x mollissima) - 5 seeds
A rare hybrid of the Chinese chestnut (C. mollissima) and the American chinkapin (C. pumila), the two tastiest species of edible chestnut. The nuts are quite small but very tasty, placed in large shells of 2-3. Ripes in the second half of September. The shrub/tree is not very tall. It bears fruit after only a few years from sowing. Seeds should be sown immediately upon receipt in a cool basement or outdoors (and the sowing area should be covered), or stratified in slightly moist peat moss over winter and sown in spring. We sell a packet of 5 seeds (viable, not dried). We have a limited supply of these packets, so we encourage you to order while they last. If you want to order chestnuts (this or other taxa), check the regulations for your country (we can ship them outside the EU, but only at the buyer's risk, so it's better to make sure that the import of these seeds into your country is not prohibited).
