A rare hybrid of the Chinese chestnut (C. mollissima) and the American chinkapin (C. pumila), the two tastiest species of edible chestnut. The nuts are quite small but very tasty, placed in large shells of 2-3. Ripes in the second half of September. The shrub/tree is not very tall. It bears fruit after only a few years from sowing. Seeds should be sown immediately upon receipt in a cool basement or outdoors (and the sowing area should be covered), or stratified in slightly moist peat moss over winter and sown in spring. We sell a packet of 5 seeds (viable, not dried). We have a limited supply of these packets, so we encourage you to order while they last.
