Mahaleb Cherry (Cerasus mahaleb) - valuable rootstock - 25 seeds

The small tree whose seeds are valued as an aromatic spice. They have a coumarin-almond flavor, but should be used sparingly, as larger quantities can be harmful. The flesh of the small fruit is also aromatic, but slightly bitter. It is sometimes added to cherry or sour cherry wines, in small amounts, to enhance the flavor. Antypka is best known, however, as it makes an excellent rootstock for cherries and sweet cherries (for grafting). It grows well with them, is resistant to frost and diseases, and grafted trees do not grow very large. For this reason, seeds of this species are highly sought after by fruit growers. They are generally not often found in the trade. We collected ours in July 2026, so they are very fresh. Seeds should be sown in the garden or a cool cellar in autumn, or cold stratified.
