Hardy Tamarillo 'JOE' hybrid (Solanum corymbiflorum) (BBC2 x ...?) - 1 seedling in a pot

The seedling of the Hardy Tamarillo 'JOE' variety (Cyphomandra corymbiflora, syn. Solanum corymbiflorum) pollinated in open conditions (not by hand) - by any other hybrid variety BC1 from the 'Pinczow Group' [(Solanum corymbiflorum x diploconos) x corymbiflorum] or a variety from the 'Iwona' group [(Solanum corymbiflorum x diploconos) x diploconos] (BC1), or the variety 'Lynn' (Solanum corymbiflorum x diploconos) F1 - the pollen donor is not precisely known because the flowers were pollinated by bumblebees. These are likely seedlings of more distant combinations, as the seeds come from the smallest fruits harvested—poor fertility likely caused the small fruits (we sell seeds of this variety separately, but only from the largest fruits, so they're likely more "pure" varieties). The "Joe" variety is very strong and prolific and is of hybrid origin. It's a double backcross (BBC2) that contains 12.5% ​​Guava Tamarillo (Solanum diploconos) and the remaining genes come from two very different forms of the wild Solanum corymbiflorum. Thanks to its hybrid origin, this variety is characterized by high heterozygosity, making it strong and vigorous. These seedlings can exhibit a wide range of characteristics. The results of sowing can be very interesting, and you can find very unique, exceptional seedlings. Solanum corymbiflorum is probably the most frost- and cold-hardy of all the Tamarillo species - it is hardy between 16-23°F [= (-5) - (-10)°C] and can survive winter outdoors in zone 8b and warmer (or 6/7 if well mulched). The 'JOE' variety produces extremely heavy fruit. The fruit differs slightly in color from the pure species, but has a similar, pleasant, exotic flavor (and a tart aftertaste). It is possible to find plants without an aftertaste among the seedlings. The variety is self-incompatible and to produce fruit, at least 2 genetically different plants are needed (it can be another seedling of the 'JOE' variety or a pure species). The flowers are pollinated by insects (bumblebees). The fruits ripen after about 4-5 months from pollination (in December), but they can ripen even in a cool basement in autumn/winter at a temperature of about 5 degrees Celsius (= 41 degrees Fahrenheit). The sale includes one seedling (grown from seed) in a pot with a capacity of approximately 0.7 liters. Only a few such plants are available.
