Tomato 'Ancestor' - (Solanum arcanum x lycopersicum) (F2) - 8 seeds
This hybrid, created by us, is a wild tomato species (S. arcanum) and a wild form of cultivated tomato. It's likely not yet stable, as it's an F2 generation. The fruit has a very good flavor and is the size of a plum. They ripen quite early. The F1 generation plants were fully resistant to late blight, but we don't know how this trait will hold in subsequent generations. The 'Ancestor' tomato has 62.5% of its genes derived from the field tomato (Solanum lycopersicum = Lycopersicon esculentum).. The name "Ancestor" comes from the fact that in this variety (at least in the F1 generation), we observed a return to the atavistic trait of inflorescence overgrowth – a leafy shoot formed at the top of the flower spike, followed by another inflorescence, and then another shoot. This is a primitive trait, not observed in tomatoes today, but particularly pronounced in this variety (although we don't know how it will be in subsequent generations). The photos show F1 plants—those that produced F2 seeds (in sale here). Obtaining this hybrid wasn't easy, as we had to combine species from two tomato groups that are very difficult to crossbreed. This is the result of many years of work, and it's truly successful. This variety produces very tasty fruit and is also resistant to blight, while also being interesting and original due to its primitive structure, described above. If you're passionate about growing unusual tomato varieties, you've come to the right place. The package contains 8 fresh seeds.
Although the spring season is over, we managed to complete all the formalities and can now legally sell not only wild tomatoes, but also Solanum lycopersicum and its hybrids!
We ship seeds with a plant passport. They can only be purchased from European Union countries.
