Japanese False Groundcherry (Physaliastrum savatieri) - 7 seeds
A perennial plant native to Japan (an endemic species). It differs from the related Physaliastrum echinatum in several ways:
- it is smaller,
- it has narrow leaves,
- it has larger flowers,
- the calyx is almost without of spines,
- and the berries are ovoid.
It is unknown whether the berries are edible (caution is advised). In its native Japan, the plant is extremely rare, and no one considers eating it. It is also a rarity in the trade and difficult to get in Europe. The plant requires well-drained, moist soil and partial shade. Seeds should be sown in autumn and kept in a cool cellar, or stratified in moist sand in a fridge. Alternatively, they can be soaked in a GA3 hormone solution (2000 ppm for 12 hours). Pack of 7 fresh seeds. Only a few packs are available.
