A rare hybrid of the Chinese chestnut (C. mollissima) and the American chestnut (C. pumila), the two tastiest species of edible chestnut. The nuts are small but very tasty, harvested in large clusters of 2-3. It ripens in the second half of September. The shrub/tree is not very tall. It bears fruit after only a few years from seed.

If you want to order chestnuts (this or other taxa), check the regulations for your country (we can ship them outside the EU, but only at the buyer's risk, so it's best to check whether the import of these scions into your country is not prohibited).

Mr. Piotr Banaszczak from the Rogów Arboretum and Mrs. Anna Jankowska, a renowned chestnut and walnut breeder (and former tomato grower), told us that there is a significant incompatibility within the Castanea genus, and that scion and rootstock do not always fuse. Interestingly, the ease of obtaining hybrids (generative) is much greater.

However, when propagating chestnuts vegetatively, you can be sure to obtain 100% identical results, whereas hybrids can occur among seedlings propagated from seed.

We sell 4 grafting sticks (scions).

We include a plant passport with orders.
